Renoir is a favourite artist of mine – love his use of colour and themes. Yes, I could image sitting in his garden painting (attempting)
the 1000 yr.old olive trees, but John, went up North last week, Wonderful forest and saw the Tane Mahuta” the biggest Kauri in the world” 2,300 yrs old – and took a great photo.Go up and see it sometime, its worth a visit – Haven’t been there for 25 years – its grown abit. Cheers, Rose & Vic.

It is strange how little recognition she received outside of France. But at least now more and more her story is being told, thanks to the likes of Peter Fitzsimons etc.

Hi Sheryl, this place in the Dordogne to which you refer is Mauzac, upstream from Lalinde. Yes she came here to free an English officer – nothing that a bit of money and nice long legs couldn’t fix!!

Very courageous woman & way ahead of her time!

Can you tell me the little place we stopped in Dordogne Valley where she was stationed at & it still has the prison there – the name escapes me?

Thanks for your comment. Well for me, I love going to Le Jardin du Quai for lunch. It is a set menu and set in the most exquisite garden. You will adore everything about the place. To find the place look for the signs for GARE SNCF, and just within 50m you will find the restaurant. Bon appetit!

David Reese and his wife used to let out rooms in his house in Montemaggiore. We stayed there as a family in August 1992, 30 years ago to this day. My sister and I had a bit of a crush on his son, Sebastien. Sad to hear that he died in 2009.
